HYDERABAD: All-India Congress Committee member and MLC Mohd. Sultan Ahmed has urged the Government to conduct a re-survey of Wakf properties across the State and publish the details district-wise. The Government, at the same time, should appoint a senior IAS officer as secretary to the Wakf Board vested with powers similar to that of Endowments Commissioner to ensure proper functioning of the Board, he said. Mr. Ahmed submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy requesting him to initiate action and clear apprehensions. ‘Exaggerated’ reportsSpeaking to reporters later, Mr. Ahmed expressed concern over reports published in a section of the press exaggerating the extent of Wakf properties and their value, against the actual extent of 1.45 lakh acres. Though the Congress government was committed to protecting Wakf properties, such reports could give scope for “unnecessary” apprehensions among the people.
