IGNOU plans honorary doctorates for six

NEW DELHI: Eminent scientists C.N.R. Rao and Anil Kakodkar along with noted Assamese writer and Jnanpith Award winner Indira Goswami will be conferred honorary doctorates at the 19th Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University here this Saturday.

Cardiac surgeon M. S. Valiathan, santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Kashmiri poet Rahman Rahi are the other three who will be felicitated with the doctorate at the function. All six are luminaries in their respective fields having won several national and international honours.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari will deliver the convocation address. As many as 101,346 students, including 58 gold medallists, will be awarded degrees and diplomas at the convocation on the main IGNOU campus. The event will be held at 32 regional centres of IGNOU through tele-conferencing.
