Dangerous drive: The ‘Nallavagu’ between Ongole and Kothapatnam, which received flash flood. HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Tuesday directed the Agriculture Department officials in six districts to assess the damage to the standing crops from the untimely rains. At a teleconference with State and district level Agriculture Department officials here, the Minister promised to extend all help to the farmers, who suffered due to the rains. Officials informed him that 1.33 lakh hectares of standing crop was submerged due to heavy rains that lashed Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts. According to preliminary information, crop in 53,884 hectares in Prakasam, followed by 43,303 hectares (Krishna), 24,722 hectares (Guntur), 7,910 hectares (Srikakulam) and 3.080 hectares (Visakhapatnam) were under flood water. The Minister directed officials to tour the affected areas and assess the damage so that the Government could extend assistance. He assured the farmers that the Government had taken note of their sufferings and would not hesitate to provide help.
