Three held for abducting youth

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Police on Monday arrested the brother of an actor and two of his accomplices on charges of wrongfully restraining a call centre employee.

Following a complaint from Newton, a singer-cum-stage performer, of Valasaravakkam, that his friend Shelton of Pudupet had been abducted by a gang on Saturday night, the Valasaravakkam police registered a case.

Investigations revealed that when the two friends — Newton and Shelton — a call centre employee, were returning home, on a two-wheeler, after a stage performance at Alandur, a gang, which came in a car, intercepted them at V.O.C.Street in Valasaravakkam and forcibly abducted Shelton. Even as the police were on the look-out for Shelton, he was set free on Sunday morning by the gang. After inquiring with him, police arrested three persons on charges of wrongfully restraining Shelton.
