One month’s time to submit report High Court round-up

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the working group constituted by the State government to look into the grievances of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) at any rate within one month and submit its report to the government.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice K.M. Joseph requested the parties not to precipitate the matter till the court decided the disputes in one way or the other.

The court made the observations when a writ petition against the doctors’ strike and also the petition seeking to implement the recommendations of a sub-committee to the working group on the revision of pay scales of the government doctors came up for hearing.

Rice scandal

Justice R. Basant on Tuesday ordered a CBI inquiry into the allegations of diversion of 371.47 tonnes of rice allotted to the Venganoor grama panchayat under the Central government’s food for work scheme. The directive came on a petition filed by V. Peethambaran, member of the panchayat and four others. .

Case closed

A bench on Tuesday closed a writ petition filed by RSP(B) leader Shibu Baby John challenging the decision to award the contract for the Titanium Sponge Plant of Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML) to the Russian company Rosoboron Exports.

The court disposed of the petition in view of the Industries Secretary’s statement that the Russian company had been given contract for conducting a feasibility study and that it would not affect the modernisation work being undertaken in the company.

Stay extended

A court has extended the stay on the Kerala State Electricity Board’s decision to include self-financing institutions in the commercial category on the basis of the recommendations of the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The stay was passed on a petition filed by St. George ITI, Thodupuzha. The petitioner contended that the decision was arbitrary and illegal.
