Warm welcome: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury being received at the venue of a public seminar on the relevance of Marxism organised on Tuesday as part of the party State conference being held in Kottayam. KOTTAYAM: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury has said that the only ideology that can explain the globalisation process is Marxism. Inaugurating a seminar on ‘The Contemporary Relevance of Marxism,’ organised on the sidelines of the 19th CPI(M) State conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Yechury said the political objective of imperialism was recolonisation of the Third World. Financial liberation
Globalisation essentially meant financial liberalisation that facilitated free flow of capital across the world eroding the economic sovereignty of nations and putting pressure on countries such as India to open newer areas for capitalist exploitation. Marxism could be used to understand this process and to raise resistances to it, he said. The CPI(M) leader pointed out that the relevance of Marxism was increasingly becoming evident with different branches of science concurring with its interpretation of the common creative capabilities of the human species and the way inequalities had emerged in the world. The strength of Marxism was its capacity to adapt to changes and much of Marxism’s failure was the failure of those who practiced it to adapt to changes. This was what had led to ossification of Marxism. The relevance of Marxism was being proved in all spheres of human endeavour and there was no theory other than Marxism which could explain why globalisation was taking place, he said. Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac chaired the seminar. B. Rajeevan and M. B. Rajesh spoke.
