Attacks pose a grave threat to national integration Says MNS and Shiv Sena raking up parochial politics MUMBAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday criticised the Maharashtra government for its “delay in arresting Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray” and staged a “social amity” dharna at the Azad Maidan here. State secretary of the party Ashok Dhawale said the delay led to the situation spiralling out of hand. Though a case was filed on Monday, the police were still delaying matters. “Such inaction poses a threat to the social amity of Mumbai.” The attacks on north Indians in the last week were detrimental to the interests of Maharashtrians as well as migrants. It also posed a grave threat to national integration, the CPI(M) pointed out. Mr. Dhawale said the people of Mumbai should be asking how many Maharashtrians will be given jobs and homes by parties such as the MNS and the Shiv Sena. Why target the poor?Instead of taking up serious issues such as poor quality of Marathi schools, these parties were targeting poor people, who lived on daily wages. The MNS and the Sena were raking up parochial politics and not engaged in anything constructive. The CPI(M) also criticised the government for going slow on providing justice to the victims of the 1992-93 riots.
