Dipika Pallikal did not report on time, SRFI tells HC

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Squash Racquets Federation of India (SRFI) on Tuesday submitted before the Delhi High Court that squash player Dipika Pallikal could not be considered for the Asian squash championship beginning in Kuwait on Wednesday as she had reported very late at the training camp in Chennai.

The federation made this submission through its lawyer Arun Jaitley in reply to a petition by Pallikal seeking quashing of the selection of the team for the championship on the grounds that the selection committee was not properly constituted and there was discrimination in selection of the women’s and men’s teams.

Mr. Jaitley said it was now too late to change the draw for the championship and the team could not be changed at this stage.

He further stated that the federation had not got a chance to assess Pallikal’s medical fitness as she did not report at the camp in time and she had not informed it that she was available in Chennai for consideration.

Taking the reply on record, Justice Gita Mittal of the Court directed Pallikal to file a rejoinder to the federation’s submission by March 20, the next date of hearing.

Pallikal also sought directions to the federation and the Centre to put in place a proper ranking system for the players and a proper team selection system.
