MANGALORE: There are a few options for those who want one-day outings. Take the 6.50 a.m. train from Mangalore Central, head north-wards to experience the spectacular Western Ghats on the Konkan railways. The train reaches Madgaon at 1.15 p.m. and you can take the return train fifteen minutes later and reach Mangalore by 8.45 p.m.. You can take up trekking on Minchi Kallu on Charmadi Ghat stretch, Brahmagiri, Kudremukh peak, Kumara Parvata near the Subrahmanya temple, Bandaje falls and Ballalrayana Durga Kodekkallu, Barekallu, Bidiru Tala, Barimale, Banjarumale, Ambattimale, Elimale, Kodachadri ranges and Gadai Kal in Belathangady. There are several places in Agumbe for trekking. If you are the religious type, some options are: Gokarnath, Kadri, Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara and Kukke Subrahmanya temples; St. Aloysius Chapel, Milagres Church and the Rosario Cathedral; Ullal Jumma Masjid and Jumma Masjid Zeenath Baksh.
