Superintendent of Police Mahesh Kumar Laddha taking a look at the surveillance camera installed in Guntur as part of a demonstration by police on Tuesday. GUNTUR: The next time you find a sign board saying ‘you are under watch,’ don’t be surprised. In a matter of six months, all the major junctions in the city, government buildings and traffic islands would have surveillance cameras as part of an ambitious project designed by the Guntur police. The high resolution cameras, both static and revolving cameras would capture digital video images of vehicular traffic, keep a hawk’s eye on the movements of anti-social elements and would have facilities for transmission and recording of images. The cameras would be networked through an existing Transmedia network in the town and connected to the police control room. ``We will install 22 cameras at all the vital places frequented by public by the end of March in the first phase to beef up public security and increase traffic surveillance. We have asked the Railways and the RTC officials to install these devices. In the second phase, interested commercial establishments and individuals would be covered,” Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha told media persons on Tuesday during a demonstration held at the Police Kalyana Mandapam. MoU signedThe police have entered into a memorandum of understanding with a Hyderabad-based security solution expert-Net India Private Limited, specialising in providing embedded and security solutions. The SP said demonstrations would be held in parts of the town to create awareness.
