Call to protect child rights
VIJAYAWADA: Framers of policies are always at a distance from the reality. As far as implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 (amended in 2006) is concerned, instead of going by mere words of the laws formulated for the wellbeing of a child, they should rather be guided by the principle behind the laws, says Sheela Barse, the human rights activist known for the proverbial fire in her belly. In her keynote address at the valediction of a two-day seminar on Juvenile Justice Act here on Tuesday, she said that along with other fundamental rights of the younger lot, a child’s right to leisure and entertainment should also be protected.
