NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Tuesday condemned the incidents of violence against north Indians in Mumbai and other places in Maharashtra, saying parochial tendencies were posing a grave threat to the unity and integrity of the country. D. Raja, MP and national secretary of the CPI, said that in the given situation when the gulf between the rural and urban areas on the one hand and the rich and poor on the other was growing alarmingly, it was only natural that people migrate from one place to another to earn their livelihood. ‘Outrageous attaack’“It is also an outrageous attack on the fundamental rights which the Constitution provides to all citizens,” he added. Criticising the Maharashtra government for its “inept handling” of the situation, Mr. Raja said the government should have taken all action, including arrest of any one required, to maintain law and order in the State. He said the State government lacked courage and determination to act against the parochial elements.
