Moscow: The two-week long ban on the import of farm products from India was lifted by Russia on Tuesday. The Russian phyto-sanitary watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, imposed the ban on January after a consignment of Indian sesame seeds allegedly containing larvae of Khapra beetles was intercepted at Novorossiisk port on the Black Sea in south Russia. Russia PM visitThe lifting of the ban coincides with the visit of Russian Prime Minister Victor A. Zubkov to India to discuss measures to expand bilateral trade and investment. Rosselkhoznadzor said it has lifted the restrictions taking into consideration additional sanitary measures as well as guarantees provided by the New Delhi. RestrictionsHowever, Indian plant products would be allowed to be imported under stricter regime and some restrictions still remained in force, Rosselkhoznadzor spokesman Alexei Alexeenko said. — PTI
