Bestselling author Eoin Colfer’s book ‘Airman’ released in India

NEW DELHI: Bestselling author Eoin Colfer, famous for his young sleuth “Artemis Fowl” series, is back with a swashbuckling adventure titled “Airman”.

Published by Penguin Group UK and distributed in India exclusively by Penguin Books India, the sci-fi adventure novel is set in the 19th Century and was released in the UK, Ireland and the United States this past January.

Colfer was reportedly inspired to write the book after a frightening skydiving experience.

Part science fiction, part romance and part betrayal, the book promises an unforgettable ride to those who decide to plunge into its pages. Targeted at a prospective audience aged ten years and above, the novel deals with the adventures of its central character Conor Broekhart in an age of discovery and invention.

Described as “die hard with fairies”, it has been one of the most awaited books released in recent times and marks the arrival of Colfer, an Irish teacher-turned-author, as a major force to reckon with in the popular fantasy genre.

Most of Colfer’s books are targeted at younger audiences. He has also written plays for adults. Fantasy is a strong theme in his work and he feels that being Irish comes across as a distinct advantage -- “Our well of mythology is so deep and rich and we are steeped in shape-shifting and magical folklore.”

Other books by Colfer include the bestselling “Benny and Omar” and “Benny and Babe” and the humorous “The Wish List”.
