Cycle rally to be held on February 16 Several leaders to join BSP at convention Chitradurga: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will hold a party convention at the New Middle School Grounds here on February 19 in preparation for the coming elections. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, State secretary of the party M. Jayanna said leaders such as the BSP national general secretary Veer Singh and State party leader P.G.R. Sindhia would attend the programme. Mr. Sindhia will inaugurate the new party office near Basaveshwar talkies in the city. He said the party’s motto of ensuring equal treatment to all sections of society had found increasing favour with the people. He felt it would be impossible for any party to gain an absolute majority in the coming elections. Claiming that the party would win at least 30 seats, he said it would play a decisive role in ensuring a popular government. “So long it was felt that only parties such as the Congress, Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party were recognisable contenders, but the BSP, which has been growing in strength with the induction of several leaders, will also emerge an equally strong player,” he said. A cycle rally would be organised on February 16 in the city to galvanize people. Mr. Jayanna claimed that as party leaders had been touring several districts to garner support, over 25,000 activists would participate in the programme. Several people would join the party during the convention, he added. District party president Panduranga Swamy and Sayed Abdullah were present.
