Swine fever confirmed in Basavakalyan taluk

Staff Correspondent

BIDAR: Clinical tests and post-mortem reports on dead pigs in Basavakalyan taluk of the district have confirmed the presence of swine fever in the region. Sanjeev Kumar, Regional Research Officer, Institute of Animal Health, Bidar, said, “It is a viral disease and occurs occasionally. It is just like common cold and spreads from one animal to the other.” Sources said that in a month over 500 pigs died, creating panic among the residents. However, a source said that the pigs used to raid gobi crops in the taluk and some farmers had poisoned them.
