CHAMARAJANAGAR: Members of the Hogenakkal Horata Samiti have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner here urging the Governor to take steps to prevent Tamil Nadu from taking up development projects near the Hogenakkal Falls till a joint survey work is completed. The samiti members have alleged that Tamil Nadu has taken up a development project worth Rs. 1,340 crore with the assistance of Japan International Cooperative Bank to supply Cauvery water to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. The samiti has alleged that Tamil Nadu has plans to establish a mega power generation project in the disputed island at Hogenakkal. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stone of the proposed drinking water project on February 26. The members have criticised the decision of the Tamil Nadu Government to go ahead with the foundation stone laying function without bringing it to the notice of the Cauvery Tribunal, Karnataka Government and the Centre. The Tamil Nadu Government had approached the Supreme Court against taking up any development projects along the Cauvery in Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, they have said. Various Kannada organisations led by the Hogenakkal Ulisi Horata Samithi will launch an agitation at Hogenakkal in protest against the Tamil Nadu Government’s decision, they have said.
