State agrees not to close Government Junior College

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The State Government has agreed not to close the Government Junior College at Rayavaram in East Godavari district on the ground that it has less than minimum number of students than required, MLC N Sesha Reddy said in a press release here on Wednesday.

The MLC stated that the Government has itself to blame for the decline in the number of students in junior colleges.

The Government College at Rayavaram had new classrooms constructed in 2002 at a cost of Rs 22 lakh and necessary infrastructure was created but policies of the State Government resulted in the number of students coming down.

Admissions

The MLC sought admissions to be made in government colleges before their reopening after summer vacations, as is the practice in private colleges and EAMCET coaching to be given in the government colleges.

Similarly, salaries should be given to the contract lecturers in government colleges in the summer vacation also instead of nine months only, to retain them and utilise them to provide EAMCET coaching. These steps would help in increasing the number of students in government colleges and also improving the standards.
