Higher Education Minister joins the camp

Ramdev to hold more camps

CUTTACK: At least 15, 000 yoga enthusiasts participated on the first day of the yoga science camp conducted by yoga guru Swami Ramdev at Baliyatra ground here on Wednesday. The camp, first of its kind in the millennium city, would continue till Monday.

All roads of the city led to the Mahanadi river bank at Gadagadia temple since the wee hours of the day as people of all ages and all walks of life rushed to the campsite to occupy vantage positions and learn yoga from Ramdev. The camp is being organized by Patanjali Yogpeeth of Hardwar to spread the message of “healthy India and disease-free world.” Expressing happiness over the fact that the Orissa Government was going to introduce yoga as a compulsory subject in the college curriculum, Swami Ramdev said: “Time has now come to reject sex education and welcome yoga education in colleges”. He also released the syllabus and curriculum of the subject that would be studied at Plus II level from the next academic year.

The State Higher Education Minister joining on the occasion said the subject would carry 100 marks in the annual Plus II exam, of which the students would appear a test for 50 marks in the first year. Earlier on Tuesday speaking to newsmen Swami Ramdev said he would conduct at least 11 lakh yoga science camps all over the country in next three to five years to spread his message of healthy India and disease-free world. “Most of my camps in future will be held in rural areas of the country and would be free of any entry fee,” he said.

Swami Ramdev said yoga was an absolute science, which also has a psychosomatic effect on the body and the behaviour. His claim has been recently vindicated by the findings of a study conducted by Acharya Balkrishna, a leading researcher and general secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth at Hardwar, the yoga guru said.

“The study which was carried out on over five lakh people across India, UK, USA, Thailand, Japan, Australia, Canada, Sri Lnka and UAE has finally established that yoga is an absolute science”, he said.
