Survey of proposed metro project demanded Cuttack-Puri shuttle trains sought CUTTACK: The Cuttack Bachao Committee, a local outfit comprising senior and eminent citizens of the city, has threatened to launch action if adequate provisions are not made in the Railway Budget to complete the pending railway proposals in the district. Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, members of the outfit said Cuttack had been neglected in the Railway Budget for last ten years as a result work in several important projects in the city are either pending or have not started yet. “The doubling of rail lines between Cuttack-Bhubaneswar and Talcher-Cuttack-Paradeep have not been taken up yet even as a little budget provisions had been made for these projects in last three fiscals,” said convener Subash Singh. For these projects, in 2007-08 fiscal, Rs 58 crore in 2005-06, Rs 79 crore in 2006-07 and Rs 119 crore in 2007-08 fiscal were allotted. “But not a single paisa had been spent all these years as a result some important passenger trains are not reaching Cuttack railway stations which are diverted through the Naraj line thereby putting the Cuttack commuters in deep trouble”, Mr. Singh alleged. Sending a memorandum to the Railway Minister, the Committee has demanded that the two pending projects be completed in the next fiscal by making adequate budget provisions. “If this demand of ours is not paid heed to then we would be forced to resort militant actions against the railways”, the members threatened. The memorandum also demands national status to Cuttack railway station, survey for the proposed Cuttack-Bhubanswar metro project and shuttle trains between Cuttack-Puri through Bhubaneswar at one-hour interval.
