ALAPPUZHA: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said the State government could not escape its responsibility by squarely blaming the Centre for the unprecedented hike in rice prices. Inaugurating a meeting held to commemorate the eighth death anniversary of former Finance Minister Thachadi Prabhakaran at Kayamkulam here on Wednesday, Mr. Chennithala said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was passing the buck at every possible opportunity on to the Centre without thinking what it could do to ease the situation. The cut in rice supplies from the Centre, which the LDF was citing as the reason for the shortage of rice, was an outcome of the LDF government’s own inefficiency, he alleged. The LDF government was never prompt in ensuring that the State took delivery of the entire quota of rice allocated to it. The regular failure in doing so resulted in the Centre cutting the State’s rice shares, he saidi. Stating that the LDF Government was losing public acceptance by the day, the KPCC president said not a single minister was available in the Secretariat for the last six months. “All of them have been busy in party conferencesThey are busy in issues related to internal differences. The main exercise at Kottayam is related to shunting Mr. Achuthanandan from the Chief Minister post,” he alleged. Former Minister M.M. Hassan, DCC president A.A. Shukoor, B. Babu Prasad, MLA and other Congress leaders were present.
