Student commits suicide

Staff Reporter

ARIYALUR: A 21-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison while travelling in the Cuddalore–Tiruchi Passenger train on Wednesday.

The Government Railway Police identified the deceased as V. Azhagiri, of Cuddalore district, who was pursuing hotel and catering management course in a private institution near Chennai.

Railway Police sources said the passengers on board the train found Azhagiri lying unconscious with froth spilling out of his mouth and immediately alerted the railway officials after the train reached Ariyalur station. He was, however, found dead by then.

Sources said that he had committed suicide by consuming poisonous substances mixed with aerated drink. The body was sent for a post mortem to the Government Hospital in Ariyalur and later handed over to his parents. The Government Railway Police, Vriddhachlam are investigating the case.
