Draft rolls of other districts will be published today Announcement for BBMP area on February 18
R. Ramaseshan Bangalore: The publication of draft electoral rolls for areas coming under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Urban district, scheduled for Thursday will be delayed by four days, as data entry and corrections have not been completed. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. Ramaseshan said the draft rolls of other districts would, however, be published on Thursday. The electoral rolls for BBMP area and the Bangalore district would be announced on February 18. This was because there were 10 lakh deletions and 7.5 lakh additions in the rolls in the two areas alone, he said. Mr. Ramaseshan said that any claims and objections for adding or deleting names by the voters could be filed from February 18 to 26 with the tahsildars and assistant commissioners in the rural areas and revenue officers and electoral registration officers in the municipal areas. He made it clear that there would be no change in the date of final publication of electoral rolls, which was March 10. The CEO said that 51 lakh deletions and 20 lakh additions would be made, but the exact number of voters would be known after analysing the data by February 22 or 23. He said that individual notices had been issued to the 51 lakh voters before removing their names from the electoral rolls. Barring a very few, there were hardly any complaint against the deletions. He denied that there was any campaigned violence by anybody against the officials, who carried out the exercise, let alone a public outcry against the deletions and it was totally peaceful. To a question, he said that the voters could continue to make applications for adding their names in the rolls even after March 10. Even during the election time, he said application could be submitted till the last date for filing nomination papers by the candidates.
