‘New centres would go a long way in meeting the social needs’ NEW DELHI: As many as 50 more community centres would be constructed in the trans-Yamuna area of the Capital so that people living there do not face difficulties in conducting their social functions, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced here on Wednesday. Speaking on the issue a day after Finance Minister A. K. Walia exhorted the Delhi Development Authority to release more land for construction of community halls, the Chief Minister said the new community centres would go a long way in meeting the social needs of the local residents. Ms. Dikshit, who laid the foundation of a community centre at Gokulpur Village in East Delhi, said that in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games-2010, Delhi would witness tremendous infrastructural development. The construction of the Games Village in the trans-Yamuna area, she said, would catalyse all-round development in the area and ensure availability of civic services at par with the most developed localities of Delhi. OperationalThe Chief Minister said of the 32 community centres planned across East Delhi, 28 have already been made operational. After completion of all these centres, she said, the Trans-Yamuna Development Board would undertake construction of about 60 public toilets in East Delhi to provide for proper sanitation.
