Academy awards for three painters

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Lalithakala Academy has selected three painters — Davangere-based Mallikarjuna Jadhav, Bangalore-based J.M.S. Mani and Belgaum-based S. Apparao Kadapurakara — for its annual honorary awards. It has also conferred special patron award on D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala.

The academy has selected 28 persons in the field of fine arts, including S.G. Vasudev, J.S. Khande Rao, N. Marishamachar, Yusuf Arrakal, Chi.Su. Krishna Setty, M.H. Krishnaiah and G.Y. Hublikar, for its special Suvarna Karnataka honours. It has selected Gadag-based Ashok Akki and Mumbai-based Gopal Subhedar for holding art exhibitions in 2007. Announcing the awards, academy chairman V.T. Kalae and Registrar V.N. Mallikarjuna Swamy told presspersons here on Wednesday that the award presentation ceremony would be held in Dharmasthala on February 23.

Those who will be conferred the Suvarna Karnataka honours include S. Dhanalakshmi, S.N. Chandrashekhara, C. Chandrashekhar, Pushpa Dravid, K.N. Ramachandran, A.L. Narasimhan (Bangalore), V.G. Andani, M.B. Lohara, M.R. Balikayi, Arya Achar, Gayitri Desai, K.R. Subbanna, Bhimarao Murugoda, G.L.N. Simha, Peter Louis, Ramesh Rao, M. Basavaiah, B.K. Hiremath, V.B. Hire Goudar, Vijaya Sindhura and Gopala Subhedara.

The winners of the ten painting prizes are Parvinkumar (oil painting); Ramesh Babu (graphics); Jayaram P.S. (acrylic); Shivananada Badiger (acrylic); Somesh N. (acrylic); H.S. Manjunath (acrylic); H.V. Manthatti (drawing); Raghavendra H. Patila (acrylic); Asharani V. Nadoni (mixed medium) and C.D. Jattannanavara (oil painting).
