KOCHI: Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader M.V. Raghavan has questioned the Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s move to form a third front political movement in the country. Mr. Raghavan said at a news conference here on Wednesday that the formation of the third front would facilitate the Bharatiya Janata Party’s return to power at the Centre and thus give communal forces an upper hand in Indian politics. Mr. Raghavan was reacting to CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat’s remarks at the ongoing party conference in Kottayam that his party would explore ways to build up a third front if the Congress did not take a strong stand against communalism. Mr. Raghavan said the formation of a third front a decade before under the leadership of the CPI(M) had led the way to the six-year rule of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the strengthening of communal forces. “The same thing will happen again if the CPI(M) goes ahead with the third front idea now,” he warned.
