NEW DELHI: The All India Minorities Front has asked the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to stop targeting north Indians settled in the State or face ‘direct action’ against Marathis settled in other parts of the country. In a statement here on Wednesday, the Front national president S.M. Asif warned that it would start a nationwide agitation to ‘oust’ all Maharashtrians from other States if the MNS chief Raj Thackeray and his men did not stop their hate campaign. Mr. Asif also criticised the State Government for being a ‘silent spectator.’ The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has expressed concern over the spread of lawlessness in Maharashtra. A CITU statement here on Wednesday said violence affected the innocent people who survived mostly on hard toil. It was unfortunate that a campaign of hatred alien to the culture of the city was being allowed to go on. “This is a glaring example of how people short of economic or political alternatives slip into shameless acts of vote bank politics,” the statement said. The CITU urged politicians to uphold the tradition of Mumbai and asked the Maharashtra Government to deal with the situation with a sense of urgency and firmness.
