MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex snapped a five-day falling streak on Wednesday by gaining 341 points, with funds resorting to buying on firm global cues. The 30-share Sensex, which was on a downward march for last five straight trading sessions and lost nearly 2055 points, bounced back sharply by 341.13 points at 16949.14 as most of the heavyweight recovered smartly. The key index touched the day’s high of 17141.06 and a low of 16725.68 points. The National Stock Exchange’s S&P CNX Nifty jumped by 91.20 points to close at 4929.45 against its last close of 4,838.25. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 91.20 points at 4929.45. Nifty touched the day’s high of 4986.55 and a low of 4,836.55 points. The Nifty had lost 484.30 points in last five trading sessions. Metal shares lent the maximum support to the market by pushing up the sectoral index higher by 501.26 points at 14774.31 followed by the realty index by 386.05 points at 9128.89. Bank index rose by 275.71 points at 10143.07, capital goods index by 268.60 points at 15141.81, oils and gas index by 250.66 points at 10,176.98 and PSU index by 106.30 points at 6675.66. Among the heavyweight stocks, housing finance major HDFC posted the maximum gain of 3.91 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank at 3.34 per cent. Reliance Industries saw its shares surging by 2.70 per cent. Blue-chips Tata Steel gained 6.72 per cent. — PTI
