KOCHI: Kerala is all set to emerge as the printing capital of the country in the next couple of years, says Kensaku Konishi, president and CEO of Canon India. Talking to reporters here today, Mr. Konishi said that Kerala was the strongest market for the company in the south. There were approximately 100 commercial printing shops which specialised in the graphic arts segment. The total market for this segment was approximately Rs.200 crore, out of which the south contributed forty per cent. Kerala had a substantial share in the south. Answering a question, he said that being a niche segment, the company was selling graphic arts printing machines directly here. The service ensured quick response, maximum uptime and affordable cost. Spotting big potential for digital colour presses in the region, Canon has put Kerala in the first phase of market penetration along with Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice-president of Canon India, said the company had 25 per cent market share in all segments of the product sales. Canon was looking for 20 per cent market share this year itself in the personal graphic arts segment in Kerala, clocking Rs.20 crore sales. He said that lot of outsourced printing opportunity existed in Kerala which catered to the Middle East markets.
