MBM Academy triumphs

KOCHI: Kochi’s MBM Chess Academy (16 pts) won the seniors title in the Cusat team chess tournament, organised by the Cochin University Chess Club, here.

Final placings: Seniors: 1. MBM Chess Academy (Kochi, 16 pts), 2. Chess Friends, Thrissur (12.5). Juniors: 1. IAS ‘A’, Kozhikode (16), 2. Ernakulam Greens (15.5). Inter-collegiate: 1. SOE (13), 2. Eng Tlsy (12.5). National judo

The National senior judo championship begins at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium, Kochi, on Friday. Competitions in eight weight categories will be held and nearly 700 men and women will be seen in action in the three-day event.

For the first time, the best judokas in both the sections will be given cash prizes, said A. Sreekumar, the championship’s general convenor.

CRPF won both the men’s and women’s titles last year.

Pushkin stars

An all-round performance by Pushkin (31 not out and three for 13) enabled AG’s Office Recreation Club to score a six-wicket win over Zeros Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘B’ division cricket league at the Medical College ground, Thiruvananthapuram, here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Zeros CC was bundled out for 84 runs with Pushkin (three for 13) and Rajeev George (three for 23) doing the damage. In reply, AG’s Office lost a few early wickets before Pushkin guided his team to victory.

The scores: Zeros CC 84 in 24.4 overs bt AG’s Office Recreation Club 86 for four in 10 overs.
