Marvellous: The Chennakeshava temple at Belur in Hassan district. BANGALORE: Hoysala architecture for long has lured connoisseurs of art. But, a large number of tourists wishing to visit the famed Hoysala temples in South Karnataka region often find it difficult to access these temples. To ensure a comfortable visit to these temples, the Tourism Department is contemplating on “Hoysala Heritage Tourism Trail” covering major Hoysala temples in Belur, Halebid, Belavady, Nuggehalli and Somanathpur. According to Tourism Director C. Somashekar, the project will be taken up under the “Integrated site management plan for sustainable conservation and development of Hoysala heritage region.” He said: “We are not identifying too wide an area and are restricting to some temples that reflect Hoysala architecture.” To enable the project, the department has also set up a committee for Hoysala heritage region comprising officials from various departments. The committee will examine the proposal and monitor its implementation.
