Urges Centre to solve inter-State water disputes as per Inter-State Water Disputes Act

KANCHEEPURAM: Members of Palar Protection Movement took out a rally here on Wednesday urging the Union government to solve inter-State water disputes as per the provisions of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act, 1956.

Claiming that non-implementation of the Cauvery Tribunal order by Karnataka and as well as the apex court direction with regard to Mullaperiyar issue by Kerala would make districts in Tamil Nadu face drinking water crisis, the demonstrators urged the Union government to set up a “river water authority” to ensure equitable distribution of water to riparian States.

The rally, which commenced at the junction of Kamarajar Salai-Vanigar veedhi, wended its way through Pallavar Medu to reach Thayaramman tank near Thyarkulam burial ground.
