Nandi awards: leakage alleged
HYDERABAD: The meeting to announce State Nandi Film Awards for the year 2006 ended on a bitter note amid allegations that details of the winners were leaked selectively to a section of the media hours before the formal declaration.
Members of the jury headed by M.S. Reddy, who addressed the media to announce the winners’ list around 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, were confronted by the media representatives over a television channel already displaying the list.
Other channels, who had made arrangements to go live with the announcement, sought explanation from the jury as to how the names of winners were leaked in advance.
Bitter moments
Unsavoury moments were witnessed for some time as the jury tried to explain that they had no clue as to what and how it happened.
But, as all the channels were vying to be the first to go public with the list, those who waited for the formal announcement were in no mood to listen to them. “Why were we called in the first place here? How come one of the channels got the list at 4.15 p.m. itself,” they argued. Asked if the matter would be enquired into and those responsible for the alleged leakage identified, the jury did not commitment itself on the demand.
