Scholarships given to 40 students

CHENNAI: Forty college students belonging to the weaker sections were given a scholarship of Rs.1,000 each on Wednesday, the death anniversary of the former Chief Minister M. Bhakthavatsalam. Former Chief Secretary K. Chokalingam gave away the scholarships at a function organised by the Bhakthavatsalam Centenary Celebration Committee Trust at the Bhakthavatsalam Memorial on Sardar Patel Road.
Sarojini Varadappan, honorary secretary of the trust, urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to persuade the Centre to release a postal stamp in honour of Bhakthavatsalam.
C.S. Veeraraghavan, honorary joint secretary of the trust, spoke.
