FCI draws with TNSP

Chennai: Food Corporation of India and Tamil Nadu Special Police shared two goals and points in the senior division hockey league championship which resumed on Wednesday after a short break at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

FCI forged ahead early in the match through a penalty corner hit by Edward and held on till late in the second half. But Special Police managed to come up with the equaliser when Krishna Kumar converted a stroke to finish the day with honours even at 1-1.

Peter bags silver

M. Peter bagged the silver in the above-70kg category in the junior master National body building championship at Durgapur recently.

Chess tournament

Jawahar Vidyalaya posts win

Jawahar Vidyalaya beat Doveton Corrie by 34 runs in the Patrician Bicentenary under-15 cricket tournament held here on Tuesday.

The scores: Jawahar Vidyalaya 140 in 30 overs (Karthik Narayanan 42, Aafaq Aahmed three for 28, Hitheesh Kumar three for 19) bt Doveton Corrie 106 in 27 overs (Mohd. Imran 25, Aafaq Aahmed 25 S. Ashwin Ram four for 39, Mukunth three for 11).

Chettinad Vidyashram 157 for nine in 30 overs (R. Mohan Babu 25, Kunal Reginwar 26, Abhishek Mehra 67, C. Ashuthosh three for 31, Abhishek Sambandh three for 26) lost to St. John’s (Besant Nagar) 160 for six in 29 overs (Sylvester Jayam 28, Geeth Puri 27, Shikkar Hukku 49 not out, Abhishek Mehra three for 27).

La Chatelaine wins

La Chatelaine defeated MCC MHSS 48-45 in the final of the N.S.S. Mandradiar Trophy under-14 basketball (boys) tournament held here recently.

State throwball

The second sub-junior State throwball championship for boys and girls is to be held at the Government boys HSS ground, Krishnagiri, February 15 to 17.

Krishnagiri District Collector Santhosh Babu, will inaugurate the championship. C. Sylendra Babu, IGP, Chief Vigilance Officer, TNPL will preside over the valedictory function on February 17.

Octopus Marine beats HVF

Octopus Marine edged HVF 2-1 in a CFA first division match at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. VF had led through Darman but Srinivasan equalised and Vinayagamurthy found the match winner.

SRM triumphs

SRM University won the women’s team tennis event in TIES 2008, defeating St. Joseph’s college 2-0 in the final. SRM had beaten CIT (Coimbatore) in the semifinals.

Double for Mubeen

M. Mubeen of SRM Arts College bagged a double, winning the tennis singles and doubles titles in the Swami Vivekananda inter-collegiate tennis tournament here. Mubeen partnering J. Shravan Kumar finished first in doubles, too.

V. Yomahesh (five for 21) and S. Anirudha (62 not out) enabled Vivekananda defeat Pachaiyappa’s by nine wickets in the first semifinal match of the Swami Vivekananda inter-collegiate cricket tournament.

The scores: Cricket: (semifinal): Pachaiyappa’s 82 in 20.4 overs (V. Yomahesh five for 21) lost to Vivekananda 84 for one in 12.2 overs (S. Anirudha 62 not out).

Earlier scores: AM Jain 116 for eight in 30 overs (S. Jayachandran 43, Srikanth three for 28) lost to Loyola 117 for two in 16.5 overs.

New College 126 for eight in 30 overs (S. Jagadheesan 59) bt Guru Nanak 123 for nine in 30 overs (S. Samuel four for 17).
