DEMONSTRATION: Members of an SHG explaining their embroidery work at an exhibition in Puducherry on Thursday. PUDUCHERRY: Exquisite handicrafts made by several self help groups (SHGs) in Tamil Nadu and products made by artisans in Puducherry are on sale at an exhibition in Saraswathy Thirumana Nilayam on Lal Bahadur Shastri Street here. Applique handmade works such as stone carving, wooden toys, terracotta items, embroidery saris, dress materials, craft items made from seashells, bags, pillow covers and bedsheets are on for sale at the expo, which would be on till February 22. Also on display are high-end embroidery saris costing Rs. 6000 to low-cost products in the category of handloom bags priced at Rs. 30. A variety of silver and gold-plated jewellery items are also on show. A striking feature is the live demonstration of how certain products are made. The SHG’s and artisans have come together to organise the exhibition under the banner of Integrated Women Development Institute, a Chennai-based NGO.
