Bangalore
It is part of ‘Amaze 2008’ organised by IIPM Original lead singer Marcia Barrett will perform Bangalore: When was the last time you thought about vinyl records, bell-bottom pants and the days of living free and happy? The Seventies were a time apart when the world was a simpler and more peaceful place. Now you can party like it is 1979 because Boney M, a band that has forever defined the pop and disco scene of the ’70s and ’80s is coming to town. The concert will be held at the Palace Grounds on March 8 as part of “Amaze 2008”, B-School fest, organised by The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM). It will feature Marcia Barrett, original lead singer of the group, along with her band. When German record producer Frank Farian recorded the single “Daddy Cool” in 1974/75, he created Boney M to support the song, bringing in four West Indian vocalists who had been working as session singers in Germany, Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell. Today, they stand as legends whom a whole generation has grown up to rocking to hits like “Rivers of Babylon”, “Brown girl in the ring”, “Rasputin” and “Ma Baker”. Marcia Barrett is all excited at the prospect of another show in India. “It will be a great thrill,” she said, “and the concert supports the awareness of global warming.” Over 10,000 free passes are being distributed, which may be collected from the IIPM campus in Koramangala, select Baskin Robbins outlets, Café Coffee Day and at PVR.
