Making Nano feel big

A car designed by two automobile engineering students can lay claim to Nano’s ‘small’ title. Designed by Ullas V.S. from Kottarakkara and Anoop S. Pillai of Mavelikkara, eighth semester students of Matha College of Technology, North Paravur, the car is 1.750 m long and has a maximum width of 1.050 m. (For Nano, it is 3.1 m and 1.5 m respectively). The competition ends there, because this is a two-seater which can hold four people. As for the cost, the stu dents had to shell out only Rs. 45,000 to make this car. A 150 cc two-stroke engine of the Bajaj Chetak scooter forms its engine and the tyres of autorickshaw put this low-cost car on the road. “Earlier we made only models,” said Anoop, who added that Melvin Cletus, their guide tested the car on road.
