‘SP will fight polls on its own’

Correspondent

SIRSI: The Samajawadi Party (SP) will contest independently in the coming election which is likely to be held after October, the party’s State unit president S. Bangarappa has said.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that people would not believe the Congress or the Janata Dal (Secular). The BJP would not get even sympathy vote, he added. Mr. Bangarappa said he had not decided on the constituency where he is going to contest. He said that he would contest in the Assembly elections.

There was pressure on me to contest from many constituencies in Uttara Kannada. That would be decided later, he said. Mr. Bangarappa denied reports about his joining the Congress.

District SP leaders Bheemanna Naik, S.J. Naik, R.G. Naik, Lalita Hegde and G.G. Hegde were present on the occasion.
