PUDUCHERRY: A two-day all India inter-collegiate technical symposium to create awareness among students of the latest developments in science and technology began on Thursday at Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC).

Principal Officer-cum Joint Director-General (Technical) Purnendu Misra, in his address, appealed to the students to keep track of the latest developments in the industrial sector and on the technological front.

To compete in job market

In an era of intense competitions and fast industrial and technological developments, “mere bookish knowledge” would not be enough to compete in the job market, he said.

If the pace of development continued, the present-day technology in various fields would become redundant in the near future.

Open approach

Mr. Misra also appealed to the students to have an open approach to the flow of information.

“Never restrict your thought process and gather information on related subject,” he told the students. He also released a copy of the souvenir brought out by the students belonging to the Department of Electronics and Communication of PEC. The symposium titled ‘Genesis 2008’ would feature presentation of papers on various subjects by students and events such as crossword, treasure hunt, shipwreck, circuit debugging and garbage-to-gadget.

Students from around 35 engineering colleges would participate in the various competitions.

Principal of PEC T.G. Palanivelu and Head of Department Electronics and Communication Engineering P. Dananjavan addressed the students at the inaugural function.
