Police bust two gangs

One of them allegedly had plans to eliminate Dera chief


Police have arrested three members of one gang and two members of another gang

They used to snatch cash, mobile and gold ornaments besides stealing vehicles


Fatehgarh Sahib: Police claimed to have busted two gangs, which were involved in various anti-social activities, including to eliminate head of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Addressing a press conference, Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Kaustabh Sharma said that police arrested three members of a gang, two members of another gang and one person in a separate case.

He said that a team of police officials under the supervision of Fatehgarh Sahib SP Shamsher Singh Boparai and Bassi Pathana DSP Rajwinder Singh Sohal; Bassi Pathana SHO Vikas Sabharwal and CIA Sirhind in-charge Ashok Sharma along with their police teams erected nakas (check post) at village Dhedran near Nandpur Kalaur and during checking arrested three persons riding on a motorcycle.

They were later identified as Inderjit Singh, a resident of village Abdullahpur near Bassi Pathana; Jaswant Singh, a resident of village Teur near Kharar and Gurdeep Singh, a resident of village Jakarmajra near Kharar.

Weapons recovered

He said that during search .315 bore pistols, cartridges, were recovered from Inderjit Singh and Jaswant Singh and .12 bore from Gurdeep Singh.

He said that the members of gang during investigations revealed that they snatched cash, mobile, gold ornaments, motorcycle and a bag of cash from a Bassi Pathana based gold smith Rajiv Kumar on pistol point near Bhakra canal of village Mehduda.

A case has already been registered at Bassi Pathana police station in this regard on January 30 under various sections of Arms Act.

Confess to crime

He said that during interrogation the gang members confessed their involvement in 17-18 incidents of snatching of mobiles, motorcycle and robbed people on deserted roads.

He said that they also revealed that the gang members have taken Supari (contract) for killing an NRI.

Conspiracy

He said that Jaswant Singh was driver of a private school at Kharar and police has informed the school authorities about it.

He said that Jaswant Singh was also president of a Gurdwara Managing Committee and it is learnt that he was planning a conspiracy against Dera Sacha Saudha chief to eliminate him.

He said that the gang members were presented in court, where they were remanded in police custody till February 16.

He said that two arrested two members of another gang Rajinder Kumar, resident of village Chakli Sujat; Naresh Kumar, resident of village Dilbarpur near Rahon of district Nawashahar.

They had stolen a Tavera vehicle from Bassi Pathana area in 2006.

He said that following a tip off, a team of CIA, Sirhind erected a check post and during checking arrested Paramjit Singh, a resident of Ranjit Nager, Kharar and recovered a stolen motorcycle from his possession. -- PTI
