“Charge of 50 paisa per unit is for maintenance, resource cost incurred” “Did not resort to power cuts unless necessitated by power theft” NEW DELHI: Power distribution company NDPL has responded sharply to the allegation levelled by Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan that it was supplying electricity round the clock to those paying higher rates in violation of the terms of privatisation. The discom spokesperson stated that NDPL had not entered into an agreement to supply 24-hour electricity at a higher cost to the industrial house in question. “The terms of agreement with the soft drink company stipulate that NDPL will take over maintenance of the generator set along with diesel and manpower resource and ensure uninterrupted power in the event of non-supply of electricity on account of whatever reasons till the time normal power supply is restored. The charge of 50 paisa per unit is towards the maintenance and resource cost incurred,” it said. Stating that it does not discriminate on quality of supply on the basis of tariff, NDPL said as far as the issue of unauthorised colonies and slums being made to go without power for over 12 hours a day was concerned, it did not resort to unwarranted power cuts unless necessitated by high incidence of power theft in certain areas and in order to protect its wires and equipment.
