CHANDIGARH: Sitting MLA Raminder Singh Bolaria, who represented Amritsar South in the Punjab Assembly, died in the US on Thursday. His body is expected to reach India on Friday. Mr. Bolaria, who had gone to the US for treatment of a cancerous growth, breathed his last around 6-15 a.m. (IST), the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar district, K. S. Pannu, told reporters there. A first-time MLA, Mr. Bolaria won the seat on Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. He had joined the Dal after his expulsion from the Congress for “anti-party” activities. Meanwhile, news also came in on Thursday of the demise of a former Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Balbir Singh, after a brief illness.Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal condoled the death of the two leaders.
