Sale deed to be given to private company
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has directed the State Government to execute, within four weeks, the sale deed of 1.1 acres of land adjoining the Sankey tank in Bangalore in favour of a private company.
Justice Rammohan Reddy passed the order on a petition by a corporation which had challenged the refusal by the State to execute the sale deed for the land.
Opposing the petition, Advocate-General B.V. Acharya contended that the original company that the land had been leased to had become defunct.
He said the land is part of a catchment area of the Sankey Tank and one acre and four guntas of land had been leased by the Government to IDL Detonators of Hyderabad in 1974. The grant specifically mentioned that only the company should utilise it. IDL Detonators was later amalgamated with another company and became known as Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. He said since the company had not utilised the land for the purpose for which it was allotted, the land should vest back with the Government.
