Nearly 3,500 acres offered to tourism investors in State

BANGALORE: Showcasing the potential for investment in tourism in Karnataka, the State offered nearly 3,500 acres of land for development apart from many properties belonging to Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) during Karnataka Momentum, the tourism investors’ meet here on Thursday.

Tourism Director C. Somashekar said that many land holders had offered their lands for development of tourism infrastructure across the State, and 2,365 acres of land under private holding were closer to tourist destinations. Besides, the department also owned lands in several places, and KSTDC had infrastructure, which was being offered to investors along with 1,134 acres of land owned by the Government. He said 14 properties owned by KSTDC, located at different places, could be developed as tourism infrastructure.

Tourism Secretary I.M. Vittalamurthy said entrepreneurs could look at a luxury train for the coastal area connecting Mangalore and Goa.

Liquor regulations

Mr. Vittalamurthy said that the proposal to extend the timing of restaurants to serve liquor till 1 p.m. was still under active consideration of the Government. “Every department concerned with the issue has approved the proposal barring the police,” he added. The extension of timings could be limited to the central business district, he said.
