This Day That Age
Mr. Henry Cabot Lodge, Head of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations, called on Prime Minister Nehru on February 13 and handed over a personal letter from President Eisenhower to him. Mr. Lodge was the guest of honour at a reception in Asoka Hotel, New Delhi, arranged by the United Nations Association. Speaking at the reception, Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon, Defence Minister, expressed the hope that when Mr. Lodge went back to the United Nations he would do his best to break the deadlock on disarmament. Mr. Lodge said although the United Nations had not worked out the way its founders had intended, it was the most powerful engine in the world to-day to influence world opinion. The United Nations was an absolute necessity for the world to-day.
