dated February 15, 1958: University autonomy

Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor of the Madras University, delivering the first convocation address at the Venkateswara University in Tirupati on February 14, deplored the tendency on the part of Government authorities to issue directives to universities on academic matters and the interference in university matters by all-India professional organisations. Established in 1954, it was a residential university for the first two years and became an affiliating university from 1956.
