WB to get Power Finance funding
Special Correspondent
KOLKATA: West Bengal will commission by May this year, South Asia’s largest grid-connected solar photovoltaic plant which is coming up on a 8.3 acre plot in Asansol. The public sector Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is providing Rs. 30.90 crore out of the Rs. 41.20 crore cost of the project.
A memorandum of agreement was signed to this effect between S. P. Gonchaudhuri, Managing Director of West Bengal Green Power Development Corporation Ltd. (WBGEDCL) , which is implementing the project, and V. K. Garg, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, PFC, in the presence of West Bengal Power Minister, Mrinal Banerjee.
Mr. Gonchaudhuri said one megawatt generation would begin between May and June with the power being sold to Dishergarh Power Station in Asansol. The Rs. 15 per unit tariff is likely to get a substantial subsidy from the Centre.
The project would also qualify for credits under the clean development mechanism, since it cuts down on green house gases.
