Quarterfinalists spotted

HYDERABAD: Orissa and U.P. recorded wins in Thursday’s two matches even as the qualifiers for the quarterfinal phase were spotted in the fourth junior national hockey championship for boys here. Orissa beat Bengal 6-1 with Sunil Toppo being the top-scorer with three goals, while Sainik Oram, Lalit Baxla and Moha Patro struck once each. Albert Kiro reduced the margin.

In another match, U.P. recorded a 6-0 win over Uttarakhand with Sunil Kumar (3), Amit Kumar (2) and Md. Faheem (1) being the scorers.

The teams which have qualified are: Steel Authority of India, Mumbai, Bihar, Jharkhand, TN, Andhra, Punjab and Chandigarh Academy. — Principal Correspondent
