Ustad Rashid Khan Bangalore: The ITC Sangeet Research Academy SRA) is organising the Fourth ITC Sangeet Sammelan here on February 16 and 17. The sammelan to be held at the Chowdiah Hall is a tribute to Acharya Pandit Govind Vithal Bhave and ITC SRA gurus Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta on the first day, and ITC SRA scholars Manali Bose and Joyeeta Sanyal followed by Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma on the second day. The two-day event is open for all classical aficionados and begins at 6 p.m. on the first day and at 5.30 p.m. on the second day. Set up by ITC as a public charitable trust in 1978 to preserve and propagate Hindustani classical music, ITC SRA is a unique example of the traditional Indian system of teaching through “Guru-Shishya Parampara” in which the disciple lives with and learns from the guru. The academy’s past gurus such as the late Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan, Pandit Nivruttibua Sarnaik, Vidushi Hirabai Barodekar, Ustad Ishtiaque Hussain Khan, Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan, Pandit A Kanan, Pandit Sunil Bose and Pandit T.D. Janorikar have been legends of Hindustani classical music.
